Wow, it’s incredibly hard to blog with a newborn. I don’t know what I was thinking… my brain was all “Hey, this is gonna be so great! Start blogging again, you’ll have SO MUCH TIME.” Yeahhhh, that’s not exactly how that happened, huh?
Anyway. It took me forever to get this together because every time I picked up my computer the baby would cry, or needed to eat, or I couldn’t get her to nap, or, or, or.
I’ve put together a very short list of things that I absolutely could not have survived without over the past 2.5 months. Some of these we had from Day One, and others I bought after the fact (and thank goodness!).
BabyBjorn Bouncer // This is not something we had at the beginning. And it’s also not something I would’ve thought to buy until I needed it. And the price. Woah. But let me tell you — there are only so many places an infant can sit when they can’t even hold their heads up. We were using the boppy lounger and our arms (and a swing, but notice how that’s not on the list), and it was just time to find another way of entertaining our baby and having a place where we could put her so we could DO THINGS. I researched what moms smarter than me did, and this seemed to be the answer. BEST. PURCHASE. EVER. The baby loves it, and I love being able to eat or fold laundry or go to the bathroom.
Boppy Newborn Lounger // (Couldn’t find a link to this one, so I linked another popular choice.) We had this from the beginning, and I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done without it. Baby napped in it (still does, actually), and it’s just such a great spot to keep her when she’s on the couch with me.
aden + anais Swaddle Set // I have a bunch of these, but this set has gotten the most use. The blankets are stretchy and soft and I use them for everything. I lay one of these down on the floor for playtime & tummy time, I swaddled her in these at night (she rolls over already, so no more swaddling for us!), and I always keep one in my diaper bag. They also come in handy as burp cloths or changing pads in a pinch. And they wash SO WELL.
Happy Baby Wrap // (This one is on sale!) I also have the HB Carrier, but once I finally tried this wrap I was like “Uhh, why didn’t I do this sooner?” Need to do laundry? Need to take the dog for a walk? Need to put makeup on or eat or do something else that’s really important? Wrap up the baby! Once you figure out how to tie this and get it right the first time it’s honestly so easy. I don’t go anywhere without this, just in case, and I wear her around the house almost every day.
Black and White Board Books // (Linked to one on Amazon, but I ordered all of them from there, and they have so many choices!) Ya’ll. I needed activities. My baby seems to be advanced (ha ha — all moms say that) and I needed things for her to do. We read and re-read (and re-read) these books all day. The high contrast is easy for her to see and provides stimulation for her growing brain. Plus, she absolutely loves looking at the pictures. Cannot recommend highly enough.
