This is pretty obvious.

I'm in a blog rut.

I mean, did I even need to say that? I guess a whole lot of life has happened since August (really July, which is basically when I stopped posting). I've been enjoying life, but I miss blogging. I just feel like I shouldn't come back until I have things to say. You know?

So I guess this post is just to say that I'm alive, well, and happy.

Here's what you've missed:

I went to New Orleans.
I'm a technical writer! I worked so hard for that and it finally happened.
I have a new job, which I friggin LOVE.
I'm starting a Master's program in January.

While it seems like a short list, some of that is the stuff that's been keeping me so busy.

Aaaaand because I worked from home today:

One last thing. It's Friday and I haven't done a #backthatazzup Friday in MONTHS. I choose this because it stays stuck in my head. And also because I'm still into blogging.

Let’s Talk Girly {Sponsored}

Alright ladies, it’s time to talk. I know this is a touchy subject and people tend to NOT want to talk about this ever, but let’s do it anyway. Besides, this is a blog and for some reason that makes it way less awkward, right? Er…maybe.

I was selected by the Clever Girls Collective for their U by Kotex campaign. I was super excited for this mainly because their commercials make me laugh so hard I pee. Really, though. I’m pretty sure no girl is anything other than moody and bloated during “that time.” Thanks for the honesty, Kotex! I received the CleanWear Pads in regular. I know. You’re all thinking, “Ew. Why pads?” Well whatever. I wanted to be different. Moving on…

Let’s start with the packaging. First of all, they were shipped in a super stealthy black box. I had actually forgotten that I was getting these in the mail and I told E to open them without realizing. Oops. He opened them up and screamed, “EW THEY’RE TAMPONS!” Naturally, I corrected him, and then laughed hysterically.

The picture I got from E when he opened my "surprise."

Once you get past the black shipping box, the pads are in a decorated black box. And okay, I have to mention the plastic packaging. It’s not even trying to hide. There were pink, blue, and green wrappings, and they are all decorated. So when you inevitably get caught carrying one to the bathroom, at least it’s cute.

I obviously demo’d these for more than a day (wouldn’t it be nice if periods only lasted for a day?), so here’s what I discovered:  These pads are pretty great. On day one I wore a dress. I was totally comfortable all day and didn’t have to worry at all about whether I was protected or not. No accidents. On day two I wore light gray (OMG!) slacks for work, and again – totally protected. The pads have the best wings! They’re super sticky, too, so once you put them in place they don’t move. The wings are really long and super wide, so I felt like I was getting some extra coverage, which is always nice. You all should know that I sit like a pretzel most of the time, and, uh…shifting…can be a problem with a pad. I had zero issues. If anything moved out of place I was still covered. I even wore these to date night. Can you tell I was comfortable in them?

On the shifting note, for testing purposes I decided to sleep in one to see how it held up. My pajamas are black and white, so I knew it would be a good test. Guys. They are so awesome. Warning: The next sentence is gonna be kind of gross. Sometimes after a night of tossing and turning while you’re on the big P, you wake up and things are kind of a mess; these CleanWear pads held up their end of the bargain. That’s all I’ll say about that.

I'm pretty happy about surviving the night in my black and WHITE pajama pants.

I loved my sample, and will definitely be adding these to the rotation. My only wish is that they were a little longer, but that’s not a huge issue for me. Ladies, I know it gets old paying for all of our “necessities,” so you all should request a sample for yourselves! Just go here to get yours!

To see what U by Kotex is up to, check them out on Facebook and Twitter!

I wrote this review while participating in a content series through Clever Girls Collective on behalf of U by Kotex, and received products to facilitate my post and compensation for my time to participate.

August Cara Box Reveal

Ladies and gentlemen, do I have stories for you! I'll catch you up on my life next week, but for today we're gonna keep it super simple with my Cara Box Reveal post. (It's a little late, but I was on vacation. Sorrynotsorry.)

For this month, I was paired with Annalee and Mallory.

Mal is the one who sent to me. We must have everything in common, because man she NAILED it.

I have to say... these things are so perfect because I'm starting a new job soon, so obviously I'm gonna need some new supplies. Here's what she sent me:

Divergent: A Young Adult lit book, which I haven't read but have heard so many awesome things about. It was definitely on my list, so I'm super excited to read it. And if that isn't enough, she was even kind enough to include a gift receipt just incase. But...I don't need it.   :)

Address Labels: Who doesn't love these? I'm always searching for stuff like this, so I'm pretty excited.

Binder Clips: THEY'RE SO CUTE.

Papermate Felt Pens: Mal happened to mention in her super sweet note to me that these are her favorite. Little does she know, they are also my favorite. In fact, I have a pack of 20 because I use them for everything. I used to color-coordinate my notes in college with these pens. I'm so happy she sent me more!

Sparkly Stickers: I also happen to have some of these as well. I used to use them when I was student teaching, but now that I'm not teaching I use them to decorate picture frames, Cara Boxes, and pretty much everything else.

I am totally impressed with how well Mal got to know me. And it's especially awesome considering she was moving more than halfway across the country in the process!

I finally have Facebook!

The time has come (the walrus said)...

I finally stepped up my blogging game -- though I'm sure my posts would show otherwise -- and I've created a Facebook page.

I'd really super appreciate it if you guys could come show me some love/support! I've shared some of my favorite posts on the FB page, so it's not completely bare. Heh... I guess it's just going to look a little sad until I really get it going.

Thanks so much for being here, reading when I post something. You all have encouraged me to keep going with this thing, even though it's at a pretty slow rate. I'm really happy you all are here in my online life, and some of you in my real life!

July Cara Box Reveal!

I promise my weekend recap will be up tomorrow. I tried to do it earlier, but technology was not on my side.

Anyway, when I came home after my crazybusyawesomebirthday weekend Saturday night, I came home to my Cara Box! Little did I know it would get better from there...

I was paired with Chelsea and Jessa. If you'd like to see what I sent Chelsea, go check it out!

Here's what I received from Jessa (who totally and completely spoiled me and I'm not complaining).

Even the packaging was cute! She sent me:

  • a totally sweet mason jar tumbler, which I've definitely been lusting after
  • a wine decanter pourer
  • nautical stickers
  • an anchor bracelet
  • a headband
  • nautical-themed magnetic notepad, notebook, and note cards
  • stamps (fish and a boat)
  • cookie cutters (a whale and an anchor)

I felt so terrible because it was like I couldn't give Jessa a good idea of my personality when we were chatting, but boy did she get inside my head! All of these items are so perfectly me and I cannot wait to break into them! I'm wearing the bracelet now and I've been carrying the notebook in my purse. I don't think anyone could have done a better job, and Jessa was so incredibly generous with the "box."

If you all are interested in signing up for the Cara Box swap, or just learning more, go here to check it out.

Hi people! I know I've been a little, uh...absent. It's been an interesting month.

Sorry, I'm one of those totally obnoxious people who luuuuurves birthdays (even when it's not my own), so bare with  me. I'll probably post tomorrow, but don't expect much. I've put together a little birthday wishlist and I wanted to share it with you! I'm even including links for those of you who fall in love and want to buy these for yourselves. Or for me.

I know this seems like an odd assortment of things. It is.

Peony in a Vase: I'm working on putting together a new "office space" in my apartment. I've already picked out a desk and everything (now I just have to buy it), and this silk flower is the perfect accent. It's exactly what I'm going for, and because it's fake, I don't have to worry about it dying. Awesome.

Jelly Sandal: These are BACK! I'm so excited! I don't want black but my computer is being weird and wouldn't let me clip any other color. I really want the clear sparkly ones and the neon yellow. (Size 39, btw.)

Gold Dot Coasters: I saw these on Design Darling and -- OMG -- I can't live without them. I plan to put a stack of them on my new desk. And they come 15 to a pack, which is pretty awesome.

Gold Sequin Bag: Um. Do I have to explain this? I'll actually probably end up buying this for myself in the next five minutes. It's on super sale. I saw it a month or so ago and didn't buy it. I'm so glad I waited.

Gilmore Girls: I have been itching to get the complete set of DVDs for a while, but they're just so expensive! So why not ask for them for my birthday, right? I used to watch this show religiously. I would sit on my couch at 8:00 p.m. once a week when it was on, and I wouldn't move until it was over. If I catch the reruns on tv these days, I still do that. This will always be one of my favorite shows. Plus, Erich says that the writer of the show was like the F. Scott Fitzgerald of our time because the dialogue on the show is non-stop. Cracks me up.

I've got a few plans for this weekend and a few backup plans just incase, so I can't wait to update you guys on my super awesome birthday extravaganza weekend. But really, it's pretty much been my birthday all month. Weeeeeee!

Rock and Roll Banker

So today I decided to participate in The Boys Behind the Blog linkup. I didn't have anything else scheduled, and quite honestly, I don't think Erich makes an appearance on here often enough. At least not stuff about him.

Please enjoy his random answers to these questions and see for yourselves why we are the perfect match.

1. What actor would play you in a movie about your life?
Joseph Gordon Levitt. But make sure he looks good -- no 90s hair or CGI face meld.

Ew. Doesn't he know I can't stand JGL?

2. What is your dream car?
Ferrari F-50 (red of course) or GM EV1.

3. Do you have any tattoos? What, where, why?
No tattoos anywhere. Suggestions welcome.

4. Boxers or briefs?
Boxer briefs.

5. List three random facts about yourself:
- I have a million hobbies because I am unable to keep focus on one thing at a time.
- My work computer background is a picture of our pet hedgehog. (Awwww.)
- I am a rock and roll banker, blissfully ignorant of how lame that seems.

A huuuuuuge thanks to Erich for playing along! (I think he secretly liked it.)

I'm having a love affair with Fifth & Mae

I am by no means a fashion blogger. There is nothing more awkward than modeling by yourself with the camera timer. For some reason, selfies with my phone seem totally normal, but I don't know what to do in front of a real camera. Now that I've said that, I do NEED to show you the amazing jewelry I recently got from Fifth & Mae. (And PS - Michelle is amazeballs and responded to every single email I sent her, got on the phone with USPS when my package didn't show up, and she has her own blog.)

We're gonna get this picture out of the way first because it's awful. I used my good camera (Olympus E PL-2) and it came out all weird and hazy. Plus, I look like a dweeb. This picture shows off the sweet triangle stud earrings and dainty branch necklace I got. Which I'm obsessed with. Just FYI.

Alright, this picture shows off the arrow cuff in red. Have I already mentioned how much I love Fifth & Mae?

If you follow me on Instagram, you've already seen this picture. The first day I wore this golden fox bracelet, I got three compliments in less than an hour. That's serious business. Aaaaand, these itty bitty bow earrings are my entire life right now. Seriously.

I also bought a really cute coral maxi dress, which is not pictured because I suck and forgot to take a picture the day I wore it. Let me just say though, it is super comfortable and totally cute. Again, compliment city.

Alright, now that you know how much love I have for this store (no, seriously. I already have a shopping cart full on the site for my second order), you should prooooobably go check it out. I'm sure you've seen Michelle's creations all over the blogosphere anyway. Really, though. Go now!

The Little Weekend That Could

This is my last week at my parents' house for puppy-sitting. It's kind of been a long month. I love that little dog to pieces, truly, but I miss my apartment and seeing my boyfriend every day. But of course as soon as I leave here I'll miss my dog. Conundrum? Perhaps.

Um, sorry I'm an 80-year-old and I don't have exciting weekends. And on top of that, I don't even take pictures. I have exactly five from this weekend, and three are from Sunday. Here's the rundown.

Friday: Had to have the pup at the groomers at 9:00. Which led to Starbucks. Which led to a nap. Then I did nothing. Then I went to Carrabba's.

Left: Panic attack on the way to groomer. Right: Handsome (and calm) boy on the way home.

Saturday: Lunch with Erich at Red Robin. Since we were pretty much right around the corner, I had to make a stop at Ulta. I bought myself some presents, and I'm super happy about them. I got Philosophy Mimosa body wash and a new flat iron (mine was ten years old). Soooo pretty and shiny.

Sunday: Made a trip to Rite-Aid to deal with a prescription debacle, picked up some sweet hair stuff (heat protectant, new brush, clear elastics... fun stuff), then went to Erich's parents' house. Turns out he had to dog-sit this weekend, too. We sat around for a while; he was doing homework so I read a book. Then we got barbecue from one of our favorite places and he took me on an adventure to this little park that I had no clue existed. (PS - I loooove finding new places to hang out in my hometown. I can't believe I had never been there before. I work literally right next to it.)
We hiked those stairs. It might not look like much, but please consider the picture on the left was IN ME when I hiked.

Next weekend will be slightly more exciting. My beeeessssst friend is coming over on Saturday. That'll probably be a post in itself. Then the weekend after that is my birthday!!! (The 26th. A wish list post is coming this week... because you care so much.)

I don't have any super cute July Fourth-ish pictures for you, so I made this instead. Happy Fourth of July to all of you! Have a cold beer for me! Er, make that a cold mojito. I'll be floating in the pool, and catching the fireworks later. Catch y'all on the flipside.

I Know What You Did This Weekend...

It's only fair that I tell you about my weekend since you all are kind enough to share yours with me! And, for the first time in a long while, I have pictures (*cue applause*)!

From top L-R, then bottom L-R:
  1. Took the pup for a walk in the beautiful/hot weather we had on Friday. I also got my eyebrows done (or as my aunt calls them, "ow-brows"), so this picture was really to show off how awesome they look. PS - I promise my face isn't that large in real life. Odd camera angle, sorry.
  2. Finally set up my new blog e-mail address and got things switched over. Even when you know what you're doing, setting things up takes friggin' forever. I'm SO happy with my social media icon signature. Just wanted to share.
  3. Painted my nails the most obnoxious color ever. Thanks, Birchbox! (Reign in Spain, btw.)
  4. Erich and I went to Outback on Friday night. I ordered the Teriyaki Filet Medallions, and they were delicious. Unlike the time everything went wrong.
  5. It's not a weekend until I've been to Target. And ordered Starbucks.
  6. Erich is a ginormous goofball.
  7. Saturday night we went to a crabhouse (heeeyyyy Southern Maryland!). We started with crab soup, and then got crab legs. By the time I thought to take a picture of those I was already disgusting.
  8. Tuckered out puppy after a hard day of playing, running, barking at birds, chasing squirrels, and licking things.
So it wasn't the most eventful or exciting weekend, but it certainly wasn't boring! Oh, and there was an impromptu visit from my aunt Sunday afternoon, so that's worth mentioning.

And just because it's July 1st, I have two things to say:

If you don't already, come follow me at Bloglovin!

Don't Lose Me!

Hi All!

Apparently this weekend is the D-Day for GFC. I don't know what's true and what's not, so this whole thing might not actually happen, but just in case...

Keep up with me over at Bloglovin!

Follow on Bloglovin

And another note, I'm working on getting a domain name and switching my blog to a new email, so there will be a few changes over here. If you have and have been using the old email that's cool. I'll still be checking that one obsessively too.

The new one is:

Let The Light In - Design

Well, I guess the creative juices are flowing over here. I decided to take a crack at a design. It was super fun, and super time-consuming. There will probably be more to come.

You are free to download this. I've set it up as a share through Google Docs, but if it doesn't work for you, feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me and I'll send it to you. Pin it, save it, do whatever. Just please don't pass it off as your own.

Feedback is welcome, too! Did I try too hard? Is it missing something? Is it too busy? Let me know!

For those interested, the quote is from "Let The Light In" by Bob Schneider.

Summer Essentials [Lotion Edition]

Let's ignore the fact that it's been three weeks since I've posted anything. Moving on...

Today I want to share with you my summer lifelines. Well, some of them. I've never really been a huge lotion fan; my skin is weird and so am I. Lotion has always just bugged me. BUT. This summer it seems like my skin has been ridiculous, and it hates everything I do to it. I've compiled a list of the lotions that I've owed my life to for the past few weeks. Oh, PS - I'm super nosy and love to see what products other people love, so I just wanted to return the favor. You know.

And just a note: Sunblock is a MUST for me (#irishgirlproblems), but I did not include any of those in this list. They are pretty much a given, so here are the others I've been using.
1. Hawaiian Tropic After Sun - This comes in a lot of "flavors," but the lime one is my favorite. I swear if it wasn't lotion I would drink it. After a day at the beach or pool, it's nice to still feel like you're on vacation just by putting on lotion. And it makes my completely dehydrated skin feel SO much better. (I'm not very nice to my skin, which is probably why it hates me.)

2. MOR Hand and Body Lotion - Black Currant Iris is the only one I use. It comes in some other awesome scents, but this is the best. On days when I want to wear a light scent that stays all day -- and hydrate my skin, obviously -- this is my go-to. Sometimes it's just too hot for perfume, and this is a great substitute.

3. Eucerin Skin Calming Itch Relief - I know, I know. This one's a little weird. I'm sorrynotsorry. My skin gets super itchy for whatever reason, and this is the only thing that stops me from scratching to death. In the winter, it gets so bad on my legs that I scratch in my sleep and wake up with what look like animal scratches all the way down my legs. So pretty. Thank goodness it's not that bad during summer, otherwise I'd never wear shorts or dresses. The horror! Anyway, I need this.

Mmmkay. Now that you know my secrets (no, really... I don't tell too many people about my weird leg scratches), it's time for me to #backthatazzup with Whitney and then go grandma it up and watch my Jeopardy.

This randomly came on the other day and I suddenly remembered how much I love it. But I am in NO WAY a redneck woman. Yeesh.

Happy Friday!! Said Everyone Ever

Lezbehonest here:  I really don't have much to say. I definitely owe you guys the story of the nightmare airport drama, and I promise it's coming!

Today has been ridiculously busy considering it's usually my day to sit around and do nothing. Don't get me wrong -- it was busy in all the best ways. With the exception of meeting with my financial advisor; that always makes me tense (especially with the upcoming furloughs).

I was up and out pretty early today to meet my fraaaands for lunch. Um, sidenote. My Madre just presented me with a $50 Target gift card for no reason. Like literally right now. Did this just become the best day ever?! Yup! Okay, sorry. Anyway, after lunch was my meeting. I made my mom go with me so we could go shopping after. She needed new clothes and wanted my help. Then she bought me a crapton of stuff. Not my fault that shopping was more successful for me, right?

I guess I'll wrap it up. But obviously not before linking up with Whitney to #backthatazzup.

I'll Just Jump Right In

Wow. I feel like it's been ages since I've written anything for this blog. I'll just jump right in.

I went to Florida for Memorial Day Weeknd; Erich's cousin got married and to sum up the weekend it was crazy, hectic, stressful, fun, busy, and relaxing. We almost missed our plane Thursday night, but that's a story for another day. Maybe tomorrow? Erich's stepmom did end up staying behind until Friday. What a night.

Friday: We finally made it to Florida Thursday night/Friday morning around 1:00 a.m. I so wasn't expecting the airport to be as pretty as it was. Erich and his dad (and all the men in the family) were playing golf that day (which resulted in an awesome farmer's tan), so Erich was up and out of the hotel less than six hours after we finally got to bed. I had nothing to do since his stepmom was still in VA, so I thought I'd hit the pool. I ended up sleeping through everyone's text messages and almost missed a chance to hang out with his cousin's fiancee. I got my ish together and texted her back saying I'd catch a cab and meet her. Oh, PS - I'd only met this girl once before and we're going to her wedding in August. Good thing we're biffs now. So we spent the day shopping at the outlets. Then we got a call from the groom's mom asking if we could pick people up an hour away from where we were. This is what happens when you're the only people not golfing. Anyway, we did, we grabbed lunch, and then we drove to a cookout. We thought the cookout was being hosted by the bride's parents, but pretty much it wasn't, so we didn't stay long. Friday night we had dinner at the most amazing restaurant in Old St. Augustine with Erich's dad's brothers and sisters (with the exception of the groom's parents). Can you guys even follow this? I barely can. I was in bed super early Friday night.

Saturday: Wedding day. Got up. Got ready. I had a meltdown over my dress and the ironing board. I don't want to talk about it. Went to wedding. Went to reception. I really could turn this into a novel, but to keep it short, the wedding was beautiful. It was outside in a park and the weather was so nice. The reception was fun, but everyone was two hours late (including the guests) because of traffic and other circumstances. Once that nonsense was over, we went to the after party hosted by the groom's parents (also Erich's aunt and uncle). They had rented a house for the week, so everyone had a place to convene. Our little group were the last ones to leave. It was SO much fun. Dare I say it was more fun than the wedding/reception? We were in bed at 2:00 a.m.

Sunday: Somehow we managed to wake up at 8:30 and get ready. We had to pack up the room and check out by 11:00, but I really thought we'd sleep until the last second. Nope. Everyone was up and out by 10 and then we went to Old St. Augustine to walk around and have lunch. We ate at Columbia, and if you live in Florida please find one of these restaurants immediately! SO good. Then we drove to the beach and met Erich's aunt and uncle. We got to lay out and play in the water for about two hours before we had to leave for the airport. Sunday was really the only relaxing day we had, and it was really sad to leave.

Monday we spent recovering, and now somehow it's Wednesday. Not really sure how that happened.

If you made it to the end let me know. I'll send you a cookie.

Can I Teach You Something?

Today I'm hopping back on the bandwagon that is the #blogeverydayinMay challenge.

Day 23: Things You've Learned That School Won't Teach You

I might be young, but I've lived my fair share of a life and I think there are some invaluable lessons that I've learned. Here's what I know.

Life is hard.

Work sucks. Everywhere you go there will be bad days and drama. There's no escaping it. Even at the best job in the world.

All people are the same. Or, there are only certain "groups" or types of people, and everyone fits into a category.

Life does not always work out as planned. If you believe in fate or are religious, you just have to believe that everything happens for a reason. It will be okay.

Death is a reality.

No matter what happens in life, how much you hurt, how much you think you can't get through something... you can. You will.

Smile and nod.

Poor decisions shape who we become. So do great decisions. Don't be afraid.

Don't ever forget to tell someone you love them. Even if you think you don't love them in that moment.

Be silly. It makes you feel good.

Travel as much as you can. Seriously.

They Call Me Crash

Today I'm linking up with Meighan for her one-time-only topic: That One Time.

So. I guess it goes like this:  What had happened was... this one time, I had my learner's permit. (Can you see where this is going?) I actually think this was the second round of me having it. I had it for two years because my mom wasn't ready to let go of the reigns. That's probably good. Anyway...

My best friend lived an hour away from me at the time, so we always had a "halfsies" point where our parents would meet if we were spending the weekend together. Side note: when you live an hour away from your BFF, you don't just spend one night at their house. It's always a whole weekend.

One day, my stepdad decided it would be a good idea if I drove to the halfsies point since I needed the hours/practice. First of all, it's over a bridge. Um. Scary. Second of all, well, there is no second of all. It was just scary. It wasn't even a big bridge; it was just my first experience driving over one so it freaked me out a little bit. Okay, onward. So I successfully drive over the bridge with no panic attack or hyperventilating, and I come to the halfsies spot. I was pulling into the parking spot (still not one of my strong points. I have to correct like 9285729 times) and they had those cement blocks so you know where to stop.

Guess who accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake?

I jumped the block, hit the corner of the building (no damage was done to the building -- only to my car, but barely), and then completely freaked out. Of course, when I looked over at my BFF and her mom, they were laughing hysterically at me. So hard, in fact, that they couldn't open the door to get out of the car. Right.

I did still end up spending the weekend with my friend, and as soon we got to her house she told EVERYONE (her dad and her three siblings) what happened. And then she told all her friends. And then I was mortified. And then I got over it.

And so now... BFF's dad calls me Crash.

You're welcome.

Is anyone getting tired of weekend updates? ...Me either.

I would like to start off by saying I promise pictures will be added to this post. So hang in there if you can.

Thursday night I went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness. I'm not exactly a Trekkie (and that's okay with me), so I hadn't seen the movie that came out in 2009. Even still, this movie was actually kind of awesome. I recommend it if you have a spare two hours.

Friday I ended up running a few errands, then having a girl night all by myself. Erich always has band practice on Friday nights, so I am almost always alone. I watched What to Expect When You're Expecting and Heathers. Neither one was what I thought it would be, but pretty good nonetheless. If you were on Twitter, you also know that I had a ridiculous amount of wine and Cheetos. No shame.

Saturday morning I woke up way too early and painted my toenails (those two things are not related, really). I also cleaned up the living room, did the dishes, and read part of a book. Whoa. In the late morning I had a Google Hangout planned with Other Gayle! It was so much fun! We are similar in ways I don't think either of us realized, and it's always nice to have someone to bond with. Shortly after my hangout date, Erich and I had a brief dance party in the living room. It's only worth mentioning because it was awesome. I FINALLY saw The Great Gatsby Saturday afternoon. I will withhold my opinions (a little bit because I'm still trying to form them). Then we had an amazeballs dinner at a restaurant called Delia's. If you are in Northern Virginia, please go. I tried hummus for the first time (I know, I know. Tardy to the party.) and I might be in love. Then we went home, caught up on one of our shows, and I passed the eff out.

Sunday Funday. We had brunch at our fave place, walked around Old Town a bit, then ran some errands. Our errands landed us at Target, and then I got so distracted by allthethings that I forgot to buy what I went in for. Hopefully tonight when I go back that won't happen again. (Anyone wanna make a bet?)

Here's hoping for another quick week. Come Friday morning, I'll be in FLORIDA!

My Struggle and an All-Call

Today I'm blogging over at Grace For Gayle (hiiiii Other Gayle!) for her #perfectlyimperfect series. The topic also happens to be a good fit for the #blogeverydayinmay challenge. Today's topic is Something difficult about your "lot in life" and how you're working to overcome it. Two birds, one stone. Yes!

I know that URL is ugly, but I can't link anything on this computer, so I'll fix it later. But you should go check it out!

Now for the all call. Thanks to Hallie from Life: Oceanside, I am hosting an online trunk show for Stella & Dot. I'm suuuuper excited about it! The show runs until June 3rd and is entirely online. If you want to take a look, you can click directly on the button and it will take you to my trunk show site. If you see something you like you can buy it from the site and it will be shipped directly to you!

I'm also keeping the button on my sidebar until June 3rd. No need to remember the link -- you can just come back and click on that. Pass it along, send it to your friends, your mom, your boyfriend/husband, whoever! I am totally in love with all of their jewelry and can't wait to get my hands on some, so I hope you like it, too.

Wedding Weekend Number One

Hi friends! I got to kick-start the wedding season this weekend, and it was SO much fun. I have very few photos of the whole weekend -- only Thursday and Saturday.

Thursday was a work day, but as you know, it is my Friday. Erich and I went out to dinner, so of course I had to share a picture of that. I had the best sausage soup ever, and the rest doesn't matter. Oh, but that drink... it was terrible. If you're ever at Bertucci's and think that ordering the Skinnygirl Sparkler is a good idea, just don't. Oh, and my hair in the outfit pic looks turrrrrible. I promise it doesn't usually look like that.

Friday I literally did nothing. Erich worked all day, I sat around. I did cook dinner, but you know me; I rarely remember to take food pictures. (Which is why two in one post today is a special treat!) He did come home after work and eat with me, but then he had band practice. I spent the rest of the night attempting to read. I fell asleep instead.

Saturday was the wedding! Yay! One of Erich's best friends from college got married on Saturday, and everything was perfect. The rain held out for their ceremony and the sun came out! The reception was gorgeous and the most fun I've had in a looooong time. The food. Oh my goodness the food. Filet and a crabcake. Heaven.

There ya go! Pretty simple. Relaxing, busy, and fun all in the same weekend. The perfect weekend, maybe. And as for wedding festivities, we get to do it all again in two weeks... but in Florida!

Wedding Season

Dear Readers,

I have nothing to say. I have been nothing but busy getting ready for the first wedding of the season. I leave tomorrow for the festivities.

Pictures to come.

I leave you with this to #backthatazzup. If you don't know this song, I no longer want to be friends with you.

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

Um. So, it's Wednesday.

My weekend is going to start in 29 hours, and here I am about to post my shenanigans from last weekend. How I have friends, I'll never know. Sorry I can't keep it together, loves.

Friday I had a busy morning, but a peaceful afternoon. No pictures. I had an early-morning appointment with my financial advisor to get my life in order, then finally got my eyebrows waxed. Dude, I've never waited that long before and I never will again. Then of course I ended my morning with a stop at Starbucks (because I'm a blogger). Kidding, it was because I really love Starbucks. And because early-morning appointments with my financial advisor make me need Venti Iced Mochas with No Whip.

Saturday was the #nvablogmeet ! Or, if you speak English, the Northern Virginia Blogger Meetup. It was so much fun! In the picture L-R: Caitlin, Mia, me, Krystle, Melanie, Abbey. I had actually already met Caitlin, Mia, and Abbey. We all got to talk throughout lunch and I got to know some pretty cool things about people I know and people I didn't know. Abbey and I hung out more after lunch, too. Because she's my bestie. Duh.

Tamales I had for lunch at the meetup. Delicious. I have only ever had better tamales in one place. And I eat a lot of freakin' tamales.

Saturday night E and I went to the movies to see Mud. I highly recommend it. It will toy with your emotions in the best way. As you can see, we were the first people in the theater. That never happens; we're usually the ones rolling in late and are forced to sit in the front row. Not this time!

Sunday I had my first Mint Julep after a day of roaming around Old Town. I didn't really take pictures of what we did because honestly we just walked around all day. I finally bought some Wellys (in red), we made a quick trip to Target (um, and I accidentally spent $100), and then went to Southside 815 for drinks and dinner. Perfect day.

The Truth About: Being Burnt Out {My Job}

Eloquent Graffiti

I'm so far behind on blogging. And that whole #blogeverydayinmay thing? Yeah, no. Oops. I would jump right back in today, but I honestly have no advice to give, so there goes that.

*PS - I totally accidentally spelled Truth as thruth in my title. Now this URL is gonna be cray. See? Burnt Out.*

Today I'm linking to tell you The Truth About: My Job.

I am an editor. More specifically, I am a Technical Editorial Assistant. Confused? I don't edit books or magazines or anything fun. I work on a Navy base and I edit SOPs -- Standard Operating Procedures. These technical documents range from 30 pages to 500 pages. Usually I can finish my job in about an hour. Other times it takes me 20 hours.

Not only do I "edit" but I format. I am a beast at Microsoft Word. I get to take red pen and mark up a whole document, but then I also have to make those same changes to an electronic copy of the same document. I get to fix mistakes that engineers make. (Honestly, for being as smart as they are, they can't write or count in sequence. True story.)

There's honestly a lot I can complain about with my job, but there are also a ton of perks.

I work Monday through Thursday. I still work a 40-hour week, I just work 10-hour days. By the time 6:00 p.m. Thursday rolls around, my brain shuts off and is DONE.

I love editing. It is a true passion for me. In college I worked at the Writing Center, and I used to volunteer to help my mom grade papers when I was kid. (She taught Language Arts.) But I do want to say that my job can be ridiculously boring. Sometimes it's incredibly slow. In fact, it's been incredibly slow since the day I started here back in December.

The major misconception with my job is that people think I work for the government because I work on base. I don't. I was hired by a defense contractor. Oh, another misconception is that people either think I make a TON of money, or I make NO money. I earn enough to live. Comfortably. And why people need to be concerned with my salary is beyond me.

I could get into a lot more truths about my job, but since a lot of it is classified and you never know who will come across my Internet corner, I will leave it at that.
